Painted Landscape Edgers for the Garden

Painted Landscape Edgers add color and whimsey to the garden. I painted this landscape edger with brightly colored mushrooms to decorate the entrance to the woods. Painting the landscape edger is easy to do and looks great under a tree in the garden. For only about $2, you can buy a landscape edger at the local garden supply store and create this design.

The days are getting shorter and the leaves have begun to fall. Where I live, in Western North Carolina, people love to decorate for fall. It is traditional to decorate homes with bales of hay, pumpkins, scarecrows, sunflowers and dried cornstalks. But what about painted rocks and scalloped pavers? Scalloped pavers can be painted with any design you like and they hold up well in outdoor conditions.

This year, I painted pavers for myself and friends. Some were painted freehand from ideas I found on Pinterest and other were done from ‘ePatterns’ that can be purchased online. The Scarecrows paver design is from an ePattern by Diane Kellogg, who sells ePatterns on Etsy. Most ePatterns are not for scalloped edgers, but they can be adapted. You can paint these designs on any bricks, garden pavers or scalloped brick edgers, which are available at your local big box hardware store or garden shop. I use acrylic paint from Walmart and I seal my designs with clear spray paint sealer. For more durable protection, you can also seal your work with Minwax Polycrylic Protective Finish.
