Inspiration: Lake Lure Flowering Bridge
One of the most inspiring garden in Southeast is The Lake Lure Flowering Bridge, located on the historic 1925 Broad River bridge in Lake Lure, NC. This retired bridge has been transformed into a garden park and is maintained by a crew of about 30 volunteers. The bridge features 30 individually themed gardens which are updated seasonally and has a unique collection of flowers and shrubs. Plants are clearly marked with their name and volunteers on site are very knowledgeable and informative. The bridge is a popular attraction for people of all ages and even those with mobility issues.
Painted bricks and rocks are used throughout the garden in darling and whimsical ways. The Mr. McGregor’s has Peter Rabbit brick books tucked in each section. The new Dog Garden has bricks painted to look like popular children’s’ books about dogs. Other titles, such as “The Secret Garden”, “The Joy of Gardening” and “Herb Gardening” are found ticked into clumps of flowers and shrubs.
If you are ever in the Lake Lure area, I highly recommend this stop.
